“Do not think that I have come to bring peace on the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword [of division between belief and unbelief].
Matthew 10:34

Truthful Thursday: Family Secrets

Proverbs 22:6 [AMP Version] Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Train by definition means to teach (a person or animal) a particular skill or type of behavior through practice and instruction over a period of time.

Is your household void of Gods training, principles and guidance? Have you trained (taught) your children how to be a child of God or are they children of Baal?

God said, my SHEEP hear my voice and will not entertain the voice of a stranger. (John 10:27)

As God continues to teach me his Holy word and the beautiful essence of being a child of God, he never ceases to amaze me. As I prepared my topic today, I honestly felt as though God wanted me to go in another direction but he was showing me my heart but at the same time a bigger picture to what led me to my thinking. Really quickly, I’ve been reading this book: Unmasking The Accuser by Kynan Bridges. The author speaks on the devils trio to enslave and keep believers bound. They are slander, gossip and offense. I highly recommend you grab that book on Amazon.

A lot of podcast, magazines and blogs are catered towards gossip. God hates gossip! Social media is a breeding group for perpetual gossip that hinders people everyday because they are cursing their lives speaking on others. My Pastor said Sunday, “people gossip because they don’t have a prayer life”. I remember my reaction, I was like wow!

Anywho, as I begin to prepare my topic an hour before it was time for me to speak God begin to pour into me what he was trying to convey and teach. God speaks to me in various of ways and before I took my nap today, I was scrolling on TikTok. My, my I learned a valuable lesson! Shoutout to the creator behind the TikTok (@dejahphillips1) for thoroughly explain the Bible in its context!

She spoke on a scripture: Proverbs 13:24, He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. Many Christians and unbelievers have twisted this scripture to say that God is okay with beating children or abusing children. I’ve always believed in spankings, but there are other forms of correction to teach a child discipline.

Furthermore, she stated how the book of Proverbs was written my Solomon, and Psalms was written by King David. Solomon is David’s son and they were a family of Shepherds. When these two great men speak, they speak using Shepherd idioms or parables if you will.

When you are a shepherd you have two main tools to herd sheep. A rod, and a staff.

Shepherds Rod: Conveys the concept of authority, power, discipline and defense of the sheep.

Shepherds staff: represents all that is long suffering & kind. It manages & sometimes catches the sheep. It is longer and thinner than a rod with a hook or crook at one end.

Do shepherds beat their sheep? No! They simply nudge them with a rod to correct their course.

It’s the same with God and his intentions with us as his children as well as what he expects from parents.

God is a shepherd and he corrects us through his word. He teaches us, test us and repeat. It’s like being in school. It’s like parenting children. In order to discipline, a child would have had to go against the teaching that was given. Many people hate correction. They hate discipline because it causes for them to change or correct devious behavior contrary to God or a way of living.

We become children of God when he can teach, plow, and correct us. When we hear his voice, we do not harden our hearts but simply submit to the correction so we can grow. As I type this out for your reading, I am being convicted and peering into my own heart where I have responded the wrong way to Gods correction and teaching. I’m thankful though because it shows I am his child! He loves me and wants to impart the very wisdom I pray for.

Psalms 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

I’m comforted knowing I’m protected by the almighty and he cares about me. I’m grateful that I am not a bastard child. I’m thankful and you should be too!

Are you a child of God or a child of Baal? Are you raising your children in the fear and admonish of God or according to the destruction of the devil?

There is hope for everyone. Even if you were raised improperly or didn’t have parents like myself, God loves you and will do all that he promised to be the father he is. Psalms 27:10 NLV – Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.
